Struggle ...
Years ago I remember hearing a lady talk about being an alcoholic on Oprah. She had written a book. I don't recall her name or even the title of the book. She described her feelings when she poured the liquor over the ice cubes in her tumbler. She spoke of how no one called her after 7pm because they knew she would be drunk. I can't have been more than 15 when I watched that show, yet those two sentences remain with me. I've often asked myself the question, "How do you grow to love a drug more than the people around you?" I think I know now. Who am I kidding? I've known the answer to that question for 7 years now.
